Endorsement Criteria

How We Arrived at the Endorsements

Colorado Muslim Vote sent a questionnaire to all candidates running in races where we were considering taking a position.

We asked candidates to share their positions on the issues that matter most to our community, including:

Civil Rights & Religious Freedom

  • Protecting the right of Muslims and other religious minorities to practice their faith freely in schools, workplaces, and public spaces

  • Stronger action to address Islamophobia and hate crimes

  • Prohibiting racial and religious profiling by law enforcement

Democracy & Accountability

  • Stricter campaign finance limits and full public disclosure of all donors funding political campaigns and ballot initiatives

  • Ensuring minority communities have meaningful representation in local government decision-making

  • Community oversight of local law enforcement

  • Refusing contributions from corporate PACs

Immigration & Public Safety

  • Limiting local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration enforcement

  • Expanding access to services for non-English-speaking residents

Economic Justice

  • Housing affordability and preventing displacement of working-class and immigrant families

  • Support for immigrant- and minority-owned small businesses

  • Stronger enforcement against wage theft and labor exploitation

Education

  • Accommodating Muslim students' religious needs in public schools, including prayer, dietary accommodations, and religious holidays

  • Inclusive curriculum that reflects the history and contributions of diverse communities, including Muslim Americans

Health & Environment

  • Stronger action to address environmental hazards and pollution affecting low-income and minority communities

  • Expanding affordable healthcare access for uninsured and underinsured residents, including immigrants

Community Engagement

  • Willingness to meet regularly with Muslim community leaders and organizations

  • Prior engagement with Muslim community organizations

Foreign Policy & Investments

  • Whether PERA (Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association) should review and divest from Israeli government bonds given Israel's actions in Gaza

To ensure full transparency in our process, we held a public town hall and invited our entire community to participate via Zoom on May 24, 2026. Together, we reviewed all candidate responses alongside their public record and voting history, and arrived at our endorsement decisions collectively.
